Nixon
Nixon Design

Refreshing the visual identity of Cornwall’s 30-year-strong design studio.

The concept was to use the central 'X' as a symbol embodying place, connection, focus, and fairness — values which are at the very literal heart of Nixon, and what they do.

While interning at Nixon, I was lucky enough to be part of a pivotal shift in its history. Having recently become independent and employee-owned, Nixon sought to have an updated studio identity that reflected its core values.

Working from a strategy deck sourced externally, I refined and distilled it into four key principles. This process was shaped by my time in the studio, gaining a deeper understanding of Nixon’s identity and values.

The identity surrounds four key values:

  1. Place – Highlighting Nixon’s connection to Cornwall and its unique character, a sector they work in closely. .
  2. Connection – Strengthening the studio’s commitment to projects that benefit people, communities, and the planet.
  3. Fairness – Showcasing Nixon’s employee-ownership model and dedication to ethical practices.
  4. Focus – Unquestionable focus on detail and craft are integral to the studio’s culture.

The result was a refreshed identity, encapsulated by the "X" at the heart of Nixon—symbolising the studio’s ethos and guiding its future direction.
